A State of Flux is a band determined to push the boundaries of modern alternative rock.

Their musical style is original, intense, progressive and brooding, falling somewhere in the vast musical landscape between bands such as Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, Kate Bush and Dead Can Dance.

A State of Flux was born in 2004 in Melbourne, Australia when vocalist Roni Shewan put her vocal ideas onto a series of songs written by producer Red Black. After collaborating on a vast amount of recorded material, the pair then recruited the rhythm section of Matt Delaney and Travis Easton and set about honing their live show and making their mark on the Melbourne live music scene.

Over many years A State of Flux have performed extensively throughout Australia, sharing some of the country's best stages with highly respected acts such as Dead Letter Circus, Jericco, K-Oscillate, Sleep Parade, Sydonia, Long Walk Home, Five Star Prison Cell, Sleepmakeswaves and Mushroom Giant (to name a few).

2009 saw A State of Flux completely revamp their lineup and live show to incorporate the numerous electronic elements present in their recorded material. The addition of multi-instrumentalist James Cvetkovski to the current core line-up of Red Black, Roni Shewan and percussionist Atticus Bastow has opened up huge performance possibilities for the band. Highly theatrical, their live show now incorporates stylised lighting and staging with sophisticated and passionate explorations of musicianship and technology. Truly a rarity in the Australian live music scene.

2010 sees A State of Flux fresh off the successful release and subsequent interstate tour of their debut self-titled EP. Produced, engineered and mixed by Red Black at Red Lodge and Studio 52 in Melbourne, and mastered by Joseph Carra at Crystal Mastering, the EP was launched at Melbourne’s Evelyn Hotel in April, 2009. It represents a staggering musical and production achievement for the band. Roni Shewan’s powerful jazz-inspired vocals are contrasted against searing and creative rock guitar and bass. Blazing drums meld seamlessly into innovative electronics and progressive elements are explored fearlessly.

2010 will also see the release and launch of A State of Flux’s first full-length release Reflux. A highly ambitious and exciting project, Reflux contains remixes and re-interpretations of songs off the self-titled EP performed by some of Melbourne’s most talented electronic and experimental artists. The band look forward to touring the album throughout Australia in June/July of 2010. The Reflux tour will be followed by the release and launch of a DVD containing live documentary and performance footage and the digitally animated film clip Surface Tension by Melbourne visual artist Heath Freeland

A State of Flux is a band with definite artistic and musical goals and the drive and fearless creativity needed to achieve them. Original and genre-defying with one eye firmly on the future, they look forward to delivering their unique musical message to the world for many years to come . . .
